Why should I get DSL from Cloud 9?
Cloud 9's DSL offerings include a number of features that either aren't available with larger ISPs, or that are only available at an additional cost. All of our DSL services include static IP addressing, multiple mailboxes, and no restrictions on running servers on your connection. We don't block any ports and don't throttle bandwidth.
Cloud 9's DSL Access service includes a dialup account, 250MB of space for files or a web site on our UNIX server, a UNIX shell account. DSL LAN Access includes a block of publicly routable addresses. Our support staff is easily reachable every day of the week, without having to spend a long time on hold, or trying to find someone who understands your problem.

Which is better, a Internet from the cable company or DSL?
Internet access via cable TV facilities shares your bandwidth among your entire neighborhood. As more and more people in your area use the cable Internet service, the responsiveness and throughput of your connection may decrease.
With DSL, you always have your allotted bandwidth available, without having to share it with other people on your street. If you have 3000Kbps/768Kbps DSL, then you'll always have 3000Kbps of bandwidth available for you for downloads. Cloud 9 doesn't block certain kinds of inbound traffic (the Internet to your PC) like some cable companies do, so you can run a mail, web or ftp server without difficulty.
Our service agreement also doesn't require you to purchase network or business-grade service in order to legally connect to or host a virtual private network (VPN).

Will I need another phone line to use DSL? What about ported numbers or changing local service?
DSL uses your regular phone line (also known as a POTS, or plain old telephone service line) and does not affect the use of the line for other things. You can have DSL and still make and receive voice or fax calls -- your phone number doesn't change, the way you use your phone doesn't change.
Lines equipped with Centrex or ISDN are incompatible with DSL. Once you have DSL installed, you can port the phone number with DSL telephone number to a VOIP carrier (like Vonage or Packet8), or to a cellular carrier, without disrupting your DSL service. You cannot switch the line that has DSL to a different local telephone company (a CLEC) and have the DSL continue to work.

Will my Verizon phone bill change?
Cloud 9 will bill you for all aspects of your DSL service. Your Verizon bill will not change, and you will not pay Verizon for your DSL service. Cloud 9 will be your single point of contact for everything relating to your service.

Can I have my own web site?
Your Cloud 9 DSL Access service includes 250MB of disk space on our UNIX server for you to create a web site (http://www.users.cloud9.net/~username). DSL LAN Access service does not include any space for a site, but Cloud 9's Web Hosting service is available for $25/month for 100MB of disk space.
With either DSL Access or DSL LAN Access, you can also host a web site on a web server over your DSL connection. Cloud 9 can help you get started with the basics on what you'll need and how to set up things like DNS and port mappings for NAT.
